Residing in Thornhill has long been a source of pride for our community—a place where we felt safe and accepted, and where our youth felt welcome.
That is now undermined.
The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) has developed a habit of acceptance. Whereas a Keffiyeh, a symbol of terrorism, is labeled as "cultural", and a Star of David is considered "political". Whereas hostile staff are appointed, history is distorted, and hate is tolerated.
I have seen it firsthand. In High School. And now, at York University.
We cannot afford to stand by and let YRDSB look like our campuses.
We Must Act.
I believe there are five key principles the YRDSB should champion:
1. Ban Violent Political Symbols in Schools
2. Implement Back to Basics
3. Prioritize Students’ Safety
4. Get Politics out Of Classrooms
5. Fight Antisemitism
Together, we can get YRDSB back to basics.
